Welding is a process used to join materials, mostly metals. Welding work affects life and property such as large building structures, industrial plant, oil distillation tower, high pressure tank, offshore oil rig, and ocean liner. Welding can be performed in different environments such as in open spaces, confined spaces, underwater, and in hazardous areas such as large oil storage tanks, chemical plants and flammable materials. Welding can cause adverse health effects as the welding process generates heat, electric current, fumes, gases, and radiation which pose a risk of fire Therefore, welders must have the knowledge, skill and proficiency which is in line with internationally accepted standards. All welders are subjected to assessment and obtaining a skill level certificate based on their level of performance.
